PROMPT: What makes literature worth reading? More specifically, what is the most important feature literature must have to be considered valuable?

- Compelling thesis/claim (answer to the prompt)-- should synthesize your reasons, NOT list them
- Reasons to support the thesis (at least TWO)-- this will be made into topic sentences for each body paragraph
- Evidence (from close reading passage AND “Literature IS” article) to support the reasons-- must provide direct quotes + your analysis of them
- Discussion of an opposing perspective-- in other words, what is another (perhaps closely related) feature of literature that makes it valuable?
- Effective counter of the opposing perspective that directly supports and builds upon your thesis
