LEARNING INTENTION: To practice close reading skills on a passage from an Adult Award Winner. 

CONNECT: Should teens read award-winning adult literature? 

CLASS DISCUSSION: 

• Why should teens read award-winning adult literature? What evidence (from your own experiences/reading) do you have to support your claim?

FORMATIVE CLOSE READ

Review Close Reading Rubric.

In your video:

• Camera should capture passage (not you!)
• Provide brief context for the passage
• Read the passage using emphasis for key ideas
• Analyze the passage for key ideas, and craft and structure (based on rubric). MUST discuss tone and thematic message.  
• Total length must not exceed 8mins (2-4 mins for context and reading; 2-4 mins for analysis)
