Unit 2: Lesson 2 (Feb 22/23)

Applying critical lenses and symbols

Learning Intention: To apply critical lenses to The White Tiger and identify symbols

Connect: If you were an animal....what animal would you be and why?

Reading Check: Quiz 1

Lit Circle #1- The White Tiger (1-36)
  • Share the evidence/examples you added to your “TWT Lens Tracking Charts” while adding new ideas based on your group's discussion.

Applying Critical Lenses
  • Using your assigned lens (power; gender; formalist; psychological), review how this lens could be applied to pages 1-36. Focus on synthesizing ideas and analysis, AND looking for emerging thematic ideas.
  • You should be identifying:
    • What (literal context or summary)
    • What more (apply lens and identify what more you see through lens)
    • So what (why is this important to the text as a whole and/or in terms of something bigger)
  • You will present 2-3 key moments from pages 1-36 and your findings to the class.
A4 TWT: The First Night (Critical Lenses)

Symbols and Images

Based on what you have read so far, what symbols or images from the first 36 pages could be linked with the developing themes (e.g. social power symbols, gender symbols, psychological symbols-- ALL would be considered formalist).

Homework: Read p 37-95 and fill out “TWT Lens Tracking Chart”
