The Fourth Night: Discussion questions

Today we are going to continue to talk through our ideas about The White Tiger.  Include evidence from multiple sections to justify your answer.


  1. How are Mukesh’s, Ashok’s, and Balram’s “manhood” defined? Are they the same kind of men? Do they have the same view on what it means to be a man? Do they have the same attitudes toward women? Etc.


  1. Explain the social hierarchy of India. Which characters are on top, middle, and bottom? Why?


  1. How would you describe the gender dynamics of Ashok & Pinky’s marriage? How are the women in the novel different and/or similar?

  1. Who is a better person: Ashok or Balram?
