Major Award Winner's

  • 3 mins with each book

TABLE DISCUSSION:

    • Is TWT deserving of the Man Booker Award?
    • Why is TWT classified as an “adult” novel?
    • Compare this to the Alex Award novel (YA in a sense) you read at the start of the semester. What is so different?
    • What are some initial differences you’re noticing about adult themes vs YA themes? Specifically focus on themes in TWT vs YA themes from the Alex book you read the first unit and other YA novels you’ve read on your own?

The comparing and contrasting of YA and adult novels and themes will be a topic that we will keep coming back to throughout this unit.

MEET YOUR NEW LIT GROUP:

  • Make a copy of roles and reading document and share with your group AND Mrs Summerton
  • Fill out for AT LEAST first lit. circle (or more if enough time)
    • NOTE: the focus is on your ability to be an effective participant in a discussion by asking open-ended questions, thinking critically, asking follow-up questions, building off others’ ideas, etc. Essentially, we are working on collaboration by focusing on the 3 question interview practice skills of 1) listening 2) questioning and 3) commenting.
